DNAAP

Detection of Non-Anthropogenic air Pollution

The main goal of the project DNAAP (Detection of Non-Anthropogenic Air Pollution) is  development and construction of an innovative and commercially available solution for:

  1. Measurement and interpretation of anthropogenic contribution of aerosol emissions (air pollution due to human activities).
  2. Evaluation of geographic distribution and natural contributions of aerosol concentration in South Europe.

With innovative measurements and interpretation of the new generation, we are able to determine the structure of natural aerosols in air. We can determine the contribution of anthropogenic pollution by subtracting natural contributions from the total PM10 concentration. Measurements of natural solids (high-time resolution) concentrations are available online. Main achievements of the project related to the previously mentioned challenges are as follows:

  • Upgrade development of an existing Aethalometer model AE33
  • Development of a sampling system to measure particulate matter PM1, PM10, and PM10-PM1
  • Establishment of initial measurement points, which is transferred to the measurement network and provide comprehensive particulate matter measurements in southern (Mediterranean) Europe.
  • Publishing a public web application describing Saharian dust clouds in South Europe can be used as an additional feature/solution for our potential customers: DNAAP website.

The investment is co-funded by the Republic of Slovenia and the EU – European Regional Development Fund.

See special DNAAP website for live data from five Mediterranean locations, trajectories and more.
