Black Carbon Measurements: Techniques, Applications, and Best Practices

GLOBAL ACTION

Leading authorities emphasize the urgent need to address Black Carbon due to its significant impact on global warming, public health, and the economy. From UNEP’s Climate and Clean Air Coalition to the new European Air Quality Directive, the consensus is clear: Black Carbon must be measured accurately and extensively.

WHY MEASURE BLACK CARBON?

Black Carbon, or soot, is a part of fine particulate matter PM2.5, produced by the incomplete combustion of carbon-based fuels. Key sources include vehicle emissions, industrial processes, residential heating, agricultural burning, and wildfires. It affects:

  • Climate: Absorbs sunlight and warms the atmosphere.
  • Health: Penetrates deep into the body, causing serious health issues.

ABOUT THE WEBINAR

Aerosol Magee Scientific specializes in scientifically validated instruments for measuring black carbon and other carbonaceous aerosols. Our team includes a strong research group that has an extensive track record of scientific publications. We have teamed up with experts and users of our instruments from around the world to present and explore:

  • What is Black Carbon, and why is it measured?
  • Use cases in air quality monitoring and scientific studies.
  • Data interpretation, analytical methods, and insights
  • Aethalometer working principles, measurement capabilities, and best practices for accurate and reliable results
