INKA-B-ZZP

Indicator of quality of living in an urban environment (air, sound, traffic)

INKA-B-ZZP project – quality of living indicator for urban environment (air, sound, traffic)

The title of INKA-B-ZZP project comes from its Slovenian equivalent – INdikator KAkovosti Bivanja, which translates to English as the quality of living indicator. This innovative project aims to develop a system to monitor air and sound pollution in cities and recommend measures to control and decrease their levels.

INKA-B-ZZP project will contribute to Slovenia’s sustainable growth and increase the resilience of its economy because it will propose actions to decrease pollution and increase the quality of living based on accurate data.

The financing of the project is made possible thanks to the governmental agency SPIRIT and falls under the umbrella of National plan for Recovery and Resilience (www.noo.gov.si), covered by NextGenerationEU funds.

Project aims to develop a system for monitoring, forecasting and proposing effective measures to reduce environmental burden and improving well-being in urban environment.

First, we will develop an innovative system for monitoring. This includes measurements, analysis and spatial distribution modelling of environmental burdens, in which we include both air and noise pollution. Monitoring gives us the first indication of the quality of life and since we will be carrying out project in an urban environment, it is called the indicator of quality of living in an urban environment or in short, INKA-B-ZZP.

The second part of the project includes the short-term forecasting or simulation of the environmental burden. Third and last part is a set of proposed actions to reduce or control the environmental burden.

The final goal of this project is to develop the “Air-Sound-Traffic” module, which can be easily used as a data-interpretation service for other systems: traffic management systems, smart city systems.

Contribution of the project on a global scale:

  1. the identification and evaluation of sources of pollution in real time,
  2. assessment of the contribution of traffic to pollution,
  3. modelling of its contributions in the future
  4. taking timely action to reduce air pollution.

The combination of monitoring and forecast coupled with proposed actions will allow for prevention, control and reduction of air pollution and increase in the quality of living indicator in urban environments.

Demonstration

The demonstration of the solution will be carried out in the Municipality of Velenje.
